TouchPoint is an agentless method of backup – this means that you can backup as many PCs, servers, and applications as you wish, there is no need to add client software on to any other device held permanentlyon the network.
The backups are initially created on a designated backup server –the TPLS (TouchPoint Local Server)– which is held locally on your network. The TPLS holds an initial full backup of your systems, following which, only the changes to your data are ever backed up. This massively reduces the volume of storage that is required and the bandwidth needed to send backup packets off site.
The TPLS sends packets containing incremental backups over the internet to our secure Data Centers. These backup packets are first compressed and then encrypted by the TPLS using 256-bit AES encryption. For most backups, a standard broadband connection can be used. For data volumes that exceed 3-5GB per day, we would recommend a larger capacity dedicated line to be used. Restoration of files, PCs, applications and even full servers could not be easier using TouchPoint.
Our appliances come in various forms, from a traditional PC appliance through to a 1U rack mountable kit, we can build it to suit your specifications and requirements.
Restoration of any lost data can be done locally using the TPLS. As restores operate at LAN speeds and not tape speeds, it is both ultimately easier and faster to do,
especially when compared to the hassle of restoring from other backup methods, such as tape.
In the unfortunate circumstance of the TPLS failing, being, stolen, or even being affected by a disaster such as a flood or fire, Data Mountain will provide an engineer to transfer your data held on our offsite backup servers to a replacement TPLS. The new TPLS with your last saved data on will then be transported to your site and installed - all within a matter of hours.
